I have fair dry skin and this is wonderful. Alot of those airbrush/aerosol sprays dry my skin out overnight. This stuff is like applying a rich lotion. Just make sure to rub prduct in with rubber gloves very well or it might streak. After I apply 2 days in a row I have perfect believable color.

The nozzle is hard to control. The smell isn't horrible but after a while it has a strange odor unlike other sunless products I've used before. Great for a subtle natural hint of color. I used the darkest shade and it wasn't as dark as sublime bronze by loreal. Lasts beyond multiple showers, but not enough color for me. Good if you have really light skin probably. I like the lotion consistency but not dark enough.

The product I'm reviewing actually isn't the product that's featured in that picture up there ^. The product i've been using and which is hands-down the best self tanner (at a drugstore price level) is called Hawaiian Tropic Island Radiance also, but it comes in a tube (there are usually advertisements for it on the side here, because you can only get it on the internet) and it comes in 2 shades darker or 3 shades darker, medium-dark. I use the latter.
Anyways so it's not the same product as featured in the picture but it is under the same name and brand, etc. I can't find it anywhere in stores, although the first time i bought it i found it at ULTA and then they immediately stopped selling it once i came back. So now i order it offline for about 15 dollars for two tubes (and they last for a good amount of time).
I'm naturally a little tan, and my tan lasts all year, but some places like my face and chest for whatever reason do not tan well and are, in my eyes, significantly paler than the rest of me. I used to try and fix this up with makeup but it was such a waste using powders and bronzers on such a large area and then having it wash off the next day. I started researching self-tanners and tried a few. I used Jergens which broke me out on my shoulders, then clinique, which smelled HORRENDOUS and was much overpriced and very orange-looking, and a few others that basically had the same cons as the two i mentioned. I found this self-tanner while looking for one that was ceritifed non-comodegenic, which means it wouldn't break me out and that was my main concern with self-tanners.
I started using this daily, only applying to my face and chest, and i saw results almost instantaneously. I looveee that it takes no time at all for the tan to appear and you don't have to gradually build it up until you see some effect, which is usually like a week or two later, and even then it's barely noticeable. The smell of this is fabulous, although it does fade out over time into the infamous self-tanner odor, so i apply it at night and wake up in the morning to shower it off because the smell lingers the whole day if i put it on after a shower. It's not as bad as most self-tanners though, not even close to being that horrendous. It lasts a good amount of time, and the color is perfect. It looks completely natural and perfectly matches the color of the rest of me. It's also a gel (not a foam like the product featured in the picture above) and so it's very softening and it moisturizes my skin very well.
Overall, i LOVE this self-tanner and i will continue to buy it even though it is a hassle to buy it online since i can't find it in stores. But it's completely worth it because in my opinion this is the perfect product. No cons.

I have one major problem with this self tanner. It won't dry! My skin remains tacky for at least 8 hours after application. This alone is why I will not be repurchasing this product. The color isn't terrible, but it takes at least three consecutive days of application to reach my desired results. The caveat is if you use it too much, your skin will take on orange hues. This product is average in terms of smell, color and non-streaking results. Nonetheless, the tacky residue left behind is a deal breaker.

I used the Medium formula just on my legs so that if the results were streaky, I'd simply wear cargo & linen pants for the next few days. Luckily, I didn't have to - the result was as good as any other sunless tanner I've used.
The thing is, I'm spoiled.
After years of using the now-discontinued (so sad) Coppertone Endless Summer no-tint foam sunless tanner, I'm accustomed to getting the right color AND having one limb be dry as soon as I start the other. With the Island Radiance, my legs were sticky from 3 P.M. when I applied it right up until bedtime. I can't tell you how much I abhor that.
The sole reason I took off two lippies is because it took forever to dry. I hope they reformulate to make it dry faster, because that alone would make this an HG for me. Or maybe they could release a no-tint mousse version of this! I'll shoot Hawaiian Tropic a letter ... continued >>

This stuff is actually pretty good! I came across it online when i was looking for a self- tanner. I was going to buy the st. Tropez brand, but that was 30 bucks for just 4 oz., and this was just $10 , so i said, hey why not? I read a bunch of great reviews (most of which were on this website) saying that it worked, or didnt work. I did some research on it (just to make sure i wasnt gonna turn into a brunette version of an oompa loompa!) ,And what i noticed Was that most of the people who said it didnt work or it was streaky, or that it stained everything, happened to have slept with it on! Instead, i left in on about 4 hours, basically dinner then took it off before i went to sleep.
I have some pros and cons about it, though. My pros: goes on like lotion. Its kind of a white color too, like lotion, which is nice, and once it obsorbs into your skin it starts to darken. It dries pretty fast which is great! Once i put in on, i could put on some regular clothes (i wore some clothes i wasnt afraid to ruin, just incase, cause i saw the gloves i used to rub the stuff in, and they had some brown on them!) and went on with my life! The color is a nice shade, like a caramel brown. I have the medium-dark creme, which i highly recomend! You dont have to necesarily get the medium dark, vut you should get the creme, because the cap isnt as bad as every one says.
My cons: it does leave a sort of strange smell. It smells good and fresh when you first put it on. Then after a few hours, maybe 4, it starts to smell like icky popcorn or somethin. It wasnt as dark as i was expecting it to get, but it does help to get a little sun, i have no idea why. Just go outside and enjoy the nice summer sun! :) it probably depends on what kind of skin you have how daek it gets. And dooont put lotion on before! It wont soak in as much, so just try putting it on after you wash off if you need too. It really didnt make my skin that dry cuz it says moisturizes, and also itd be a good idea to shave and exfoliate before you put it on. Exfoliating your body gets all the dead skin cells off and helps it soak in. If you want more tips for instant tanning, look up Michelle Phan's video on youtube called Bronze Beauty. She uses Lancome's Flash Bronzer, which should also work really well if this doesnt work for you.
Oh, and im not sure how long it lasts. Probably just a week from what i've heard, so keep a watch the first timr you use it! I hope i've helped :)

MUA led me to this self-tanner and I am pretty happy overall with its performance. I had been using the L'oreal sublime bronze (gel formula), which is decent, but was looking for something that didn't turn me as orange and reek as badly. One moderate application of the Hawaiian Tropic (bought it in the medium creme formula, advertised as 2 shades darker than your natural color) Island Radiance gave me a *very* even, brown-based, believable tan. There is a tinge of orange in it, which works with my skin coloring (I'm a natural redhead), but I imagine most people would still be happy with the color unless your skin tone is naturally very blue-based and cool. I applied it after shaving, exfoliating, and dabbing my knees and elbows with Cetaphil lotion - it goes on very smoothly, smells pleasant coming out of the bottle, and feels very moisturizing. My skin did feel a little sticky even after air drying for 10 minutes, but I applied quite a bit - a lesser amount probably would have absorbed completely. I went to bed about an hour later and woke up with a lovely, sun-kissed color. The dreaded smell had developed by morning, although it was not as strong as with other self-tanners and I'm afraid may be unavoidable due to the chemistry involved. The only major drawback to this product is the nozzle dispenser ... it shoots out an almost preset amount every time you depress the nozzle and there is no way of dispensing less ... this is particularly annoying if you want to spot treat an area after doing the majority of your body (ex: hands after washing palms), but isn't annoying enough to keep me from re-purchasing. I was planning on trying the St. Tropez tinted self-tanning mousse (which sounds like a miracle product), but due to the price discrepancy will probably stick with this. It was surprisingly hard to find, even in the major, SW city where I live ... I half-heartedly looked for months before finally finding it on a sale shelf at Walmart, although it is easy enough to find online that I'll probably purchase it that way in the future. All in all, a great tanner at drugstore prices that outperforms anything else I've found in the same price range.

I love this product, it has a nice smell, not the usual funky self tanner odor. It was easy to apply, very creamy, and gave a nice, natural looking tan. My legs were ghostly white, and I woke up this am with a beautiful golden tan! I am going to re-apply tonight to deepen the color. It was under $8 at Wal Mart. Don't spend the money on more expensive brands, it is really not worth it.

I decided to give this a try after becoming disenchanted with l'oreal sublime bronze. First off, the dispenser is bi-polar...you can't control how much comes out and most of the time it explodes everywhere. The smell is disgusting, (and I am not sensitive to smells) it smells like buttered popcorn or something strange. I put my self-tanners on at night and take a shower in the morning...leaving this stuff on was an act of god because it reeked. Lastly, I got the medium-dark (the darkest shade) and I could barely notice a difference the next morning...I am guessing you have to build-a-tan with this stuff. However, the thing I liked about this is - no streaks and it looked real (no orange)!!
Bottom Line: I won't buy again, and I am still on the hunt for "The Perfect Self - Tanner."

I really like this product! It's somewhat difficult to dispense only a small amount at once, but that's OK. It's extremely moisturizing and doesn't streak! The color is not dark though, so that's the only downside. I'm NW20 and this brings me to only 1 foundation shade darker.

A couple words. ORANGE being the first. This is super fake orange. Also, SUPER STRONG fake tan smell. i put this on my legs before I went to bed and it kept me up all night because it was so strong. One of the worst I've used.

I have stopped going to the tanning beds but I still desire a golden glow. I have tried gradual tanners and various other self tanners and this one works the best. Based on other reviews on how hard this stuff is to dispense evenly, I fill up a small squeeze travel bottle and dispense the tanner from that instead of the Hawaiian Tropic bottle. I mix a small amount of regular body lotion with my self tanner to make sure that I put it on evenly because I would rather put it on two days in a row, than once and mess it up. I have used this for almost a month and currently I am using very little lotion in my self tanner and my skin looks amazing. My friends couldn't believe my "tan" is from a bottle, neither could my sister. The odor is so bad my boyfriend commented on how good I smelled :)

I saw some decent reviews of this product on MUA so I made the purchase. I have used some other products in the past, with gradual (albeit, smelly) results, but at least they weren't blotchy.
This product made me look like I had a full body rash. It does not go on even, by any means. One friend asked me when it was going to fade and another said "at least you're wearing long sleeves."
Not what I look for in a product that is supposed to give me a "glow."

THE best self-tanner I've used, hands down. It's "odor blocking technology" keeps the self-tanner scent way down, compared to others tanners. My bedroom doesn't have that stink anymore... Looks brown rather than orange... Very moisturizing... Less streaky and blotchy, especially when I used lotion on any dry skin first... Works quickly and lasts without weird fading patterns. I used the medium to dark shade and it looks much better on my fair skin than other tanners I've used. The lotion formula is easier to apply; I just have to be careful not to squirt out too much at once.

I was not very impressed with this especially after all the really good reviews. I have medium fair skin and was trying to avoid the tanning beds. This comes out super fast when you get it so be careful. Also this is VERY oily. I stay away from mineral oil in products since it is a by product of gasoline please look up info on mineral oil and why its in everything. Also I have oily acne prone skin.
Pros:
I'm giving it a 3 because it didnt break me out, gave me decent color and didnt stain anything.
Cons:
is that is has a funny smell never fully dried on my and was kind of orangey, also was very oily and comes out too fast you cant control it.

Fabulous! No offensive smell. It sinks right in. And, it developes fast. Nice golden color. Makes my skin soft. Best selftan I ever used and will continue to do so. It squirts out fast, so I must be careful. It spreads nice and evenly, so that is forgivable. I get it at Walmart for 8.99. I heart this tanner muchos! I like to use this once a week to give my skin a golden boost. I apply it after a late evening shower, go to bed, wake up hit the gym/spin class....Then wash it off. And voila. One application gets the job done! Call me crazy...but I think my workout intensifies the color. I also like applying this before a work out too, if I don't apply it at night...and I will just wear it all day. The smell at the end can smell selftanny....but no way near as offensive as self-tanners I used in the past...And no way near as sticky. Island Radiance is very tolerable. I forget I even have it on! Never stains my sheets...As for clothes never...but also I'm sure not to wear whites when using this...Just in case! Love Hawaiian Tropic Products...And not just beacause I was born and raised Hawaii ;) Update: Love this, but it's too messy how it squirts out the bottle. I love Banana Boats Summer Color Self-Tanner more than this. The Banana Boat color is more caramel gold and this stuff is more straight brown than gold.

Overall a good self tanner, but I have pros and cons about it! First of all, the packaging is good and the product gives you nice color. I definitely think the color is noticeable, yet natural looking. I've been complicated on how "happy and glowing" I look after using this. The gel is pretty easy to apply, with the exception of my back of course, but it still came out even. I apply it lightly in some areas, like my knees/ankles. The gel was pretty moisturizing and felt nice. I even used this on my face and it didn't seem to irritate it. It also has a very light tint, but I can't really notice the tint as I'm applying it. I wouldn't recommend wearing white right after applying it just in case, but I didn't have any stained clothing or sheets from it.
Now for the negatives. I was very happy when I first applied this and it had a nice fresh scent, not that typical self tanner smell. Bad smells really bother me, especially if I can smell it on myself all day. I get self conscious about other people smelling it too! Well unfortunately I noticed that although this smelled nice, by the time the tan had developed, it did get some of that typical self tanner scent. It wasn't too horrible, but I did notice it. For some reason it reminded me of the smell of a cracker. Kind of strange! Also, I did notice that after my next shower (and I already have the sunless tan), my skin felt a little drier than usual. To fix this, I just make sure to moisturize! I actually sometimes use a regular lotion first, THEN apply the self tanner. This helps it go on really nice and even too, and the color still gets absorbed pretty well.
Overall, I'd say this self tanner still beats a lot of the other drugstore brand ones. I'd say Jergens and Loreal Sublime Bronze smell much stronger than this one. I do prefer a spray self tanner, but this gel wasn't as bad as I expected to apply. I put that I'd repurchase, but I'll probably be trying others and using this as a backup if I need extra color. I usually use a gradual self tanner, as I have a few that don't smell bad as they develop.

I love this fake tan, im waiting for it to dry right now!...
I actually picked it up for £3 at a tk maxx store.
I showered/exfoliated/shaved before applying the product. I know shaving before applying any product like this is a grey area but i always do as i hate the way fake tans collect unround the hairs/pores if legs arent clean shaven... also you won't have to shave half the effect of the tan off a few days later.
Anyway, the product has a gel consistency and was really easy to apply and there was no weird smell that many fake tans have.
I applied the tan on my whole body and left until the next morning before showering.
The product did take a while to dry but there was no smudges or streaks the next morning.
I was pleased with the way my skin felt, really soft and moisturised and evenly tanned. the colour was natural, not orangey like some self tanners.
I am fair and used the medium/dark product as i like to see results after one application. the colour wasn't actually that strong but was buildable with a few more applications.
overall i am really pleased with this product and can see myself using it for years to come! I just use it like a full body moisturiser every other time i shower and am always glowing, don't moisturise before you apply the tan though as it does not develop so well.
so yeah, thumbs up!

Hey I need some advice!
I have pretty fair skin but tan easily. Does this come in a 'light' shade? If not... how is the medium?
Really need some colour on my legs!

Hawaiian Tropic has two Island Radiance self-tanners: I believe one is the brand's traditional self-tanner (not pictured) and one is the creme lotion (similar to the one pictured). I've tried them both and they are GREAT! In fact, they are so good for so many reasons that I am surprised there isn't more of a buzz about them on MUA.
The traditional self-tanner comes in a squeeze-tube bottle. It is a gel consistency that spreads evenly which makes it really easy to use. After applying it, it feels slightly greasy but that sensation goes away quickly. The smell reminds me of Hawaiian Tropic tanning oil, but it also fades and becomes unnoticeable. I bought it in the dark and it gave me a medium tan which is pretty good considering that I only leave it on for about three hours. I never noticed any streaking or staining of my clothing.
The creme lotion, though, is my favorite self-tanner. I've tried many different self-tanners and this one is superior for several reasons. For me, the best features of this tanner had to do with the smell and the consistency. This advertises that it has odor-blocking technology and I have to say that claim is 100% true. I barely notice any smell. Other tanners had such wretched smells that I became nauseated with continued use, but this one has next to no smell. What a relief!!! As for the consistency, this feels just like a lotion so it glides across my skin and absorbs very quickly. It is just like putting on regular lotion. That's a real benefit for me because it speeds up the application process and it doesn't leave my skin feeling sticky or greasy. (Other self-tanners are a chore to rub in - and then they coat your skin so horribly that you just want to crawl out.) And, one bottle gave me well over ten full body applications. I used it so many times that I lost count!
Of course the color pay-off with the creme lotion version is superior to other tanners. I bought the darker version which is advertised as being three shades darker than your skin tone. It gives my skin a light brown tan that is more authentic than anything else I've tried. (Once again, I only leave it on for about three hours - I'm guessing I could get darker if I left it on overnight.) And the real beauty is that after applying this two-three times it lasts for almost a full week - then after that all you need to do is maintenance. And like the traditional version, I've never noticed any streaking or staining.
The only thing that I don't like about the creme lotion is the packaging. It comes in a metal bottle with a plastic spout. The spout is hard to control and more than once I've pushed too hard and too much came out at once. This is a small problem and is easily fixed, though. Now I just squirt a bunch out onto a plate or cling wrap and then dip my fingers in to get as much or as little as I want.
The bottom line is that Hawaiian Tropic Island Radiance tanners have everything you would want in self-tanners: rich, lasting color with minimal smell. Please don't waste your time with anything else!
