This started out YUM and ended up YUCKKKKK on me! On some it may be delicius but I am not one of those.
It has a strong true delicious chocolate cake scent which was awesome. I was like wow that smells good. But then after 5 minutes or so it turned into this very cloying, very synthetic cocoa buttery scent with a plastic edge. Became a sorta cocoa butter meets playdough-Couldnt wait to wash it off. GROSS!
Mind you I LOVE Sweet scents but this was something I'd buy for a child, not for myself.

I hated this, to my nose it was repulsive. The below reviewer definately hit the nail on the head in that this smells waxy (the candles I presume) with dirt thrown in for extra measure!
The thing is with demeter fragrances they are very "real" If this was a BBW fragrance it would smell of sugar & vanilla. But with this it is a chocolate cake with frosting & blown out waxy candles and you can smell each.
On dry down, I can smell cake very faintly, but underneath the awful elements I cant forgive. continued >>

This is nice.. sweet vanilla icing smell..but it is hardly noticeable. Takes many sprays to actually be able to smell it. It gets my approval for smell though!

Smells like chocolate cake! Warm and inviting. Not a scent I would wear often, but I do like it on some occasions (okay, mostly just for on my birthday)!

See the thing is, Aunt Shirlee used to hook us kids up with cakes for our birthdays. She was good about that. She'd smoke her unfiltered Kools while we swung around in the backyard on an old tire. She'd use her green lighter to light the candles and then WATCH OUT HILLARY!! We'd come a runnin' inside as she carefully carried the cake on it's gold cardboard base and set it on the lacy white tablecloth. As the Marie Osmand originals stared at me with their exaggerated lashes and sparkling blue glass eyes, I'd take the deepest breath imaginable. I'd blow, while little bits of drool would hit the table and tears would roll from my eyes from all the pressure. She'd laugh, flicking her ashes into the ashtray. Uncle George would say "atta girl kid" and then Shirlee would yell, "G*D Dammit George, cut the cake for the kid already." He'd cut and serve, while I'd be drooling again, waiting to taste the chocolatey, cakey goodness. The super sweet sugar buttercream would melt in my mouth and I would be in Heaven. Almost Heaven, sweet West Virginia. Those Food Lion cakes were the best. This smells just like that. The candles, the gold cardboard, the cake, the frosting. The only thing missing is Aunt Shirlee's Aquanet and Jean Nate cloud that clung to her like a ghost. Ah. Good times.

This smells like coconut to me. I was hoping it would have more hints of vanilla in it.

I negotiated a swap for a huge bottle of this (stupidly, as I'd never smelled it before), and at the last minute, I asked her if she could send me her honeysuckle bottle instead. Thankfully, she was very sweet and obliged, then threw in a decant of this so I could try it anyway. (Moochang is awesome!) Whoooaaaa, I'm glad I got a whiff of this from a decant and not from an enormous bottle; I'd have been absolutely despondent to have swapped for a whole bottle of it. If you like foodish scents, you may like this one; it does have a strong chocolate smell to it, but not that rich, deep, cocoa smell like the BBW scrub. It's more of a pungent, synthetic type smell to me -- not birthday cake at all. I guess it depends on what kind of cakes you had as a child as far as what you expect -- I pictured yellow cake with white icing, the scent of freshly blown candle wash mingled in. In any case, had my birthday cakes smelled like this, I would never have wished for another one! Bleh!

What can I say but FOUL! Smells like the time I knocked over a bottle of vanilla extrat in my cabinet and couldn't get the smell out for weeks. I don't get any cakey smell here at all. Just strong pungent vanilla. But maybe I am biased since I hate vanilla anything. I get headaches from it. But if you like vanilla extract, give it a whirl, you'll love it!

To me this smelled very fake and plastic...like dollar store lip balm that is supposed to smell like chocolate but smells like melting plasic instead. I could smell the attempt at the chocolate and the attempt at the cakey part...but to me it was a poor attempt. Very chemically and I washed it off after applying.

I think I'm on my 3rd bottle of this! It's a perfect mix of white cake and buttercream frosting, with just a hint of a chocolate note. It's VERY sweet, and another Demeter scent I wouldn't be without.

Well...Demeter has done it again! Close your eyes and sniff...it smells EXACTLY like vanilla cake with chocolate frosting - plus wax candles! No Joke!

This does not smell like birthday cake imo. And it smells a lot different on skin. Its a kind of scent that you dont really want to smell like once it hits your skin. Kind of "rotten"...

This is the most complex Demeter I've had contact with. You can see that here--chocolate, berry, butter, icing, wax, vanilla? A co-worker said coconut, my roommate said cotton candy. What is this? Whatever it is, it's great, sweet smelling, lasts a while. The diedown seems to always be different, and that is really why I love this scent. Its like a different sweet mix every time. continued >>

I wanted this to smell like a yellow cake with icing but this smells cheap and chocolatey with a fruity and almost a flowery note...
I used to make perfume oil blends and this smells very cheap...A very distastefull vanilla not also is preasent...I wont be keeping it.

I received this as a birthday present (very thoughtful!). It makes me think of a fresh cream cake with strong vanilla flavour. However, like all Demeter fragrances, it has *no* staying power. So if you want a sweet-smelling (I love food smells on me!) fun fragrance, get it. But be prepared to reapply often.

I thought I was going to love this scent since I have a big time sweet tooth and love sweet scents but I could not deal with this scent. It was overboard sweet and buttery. Many people like buttery but I do not want to smell like a stick of butter. Next!

JUST RECIEVED THIS ONE TODAY IN THE MAIL. IT BUSTED , BUT THERE IS ENOUGH LEFT TO GIVE A REVIEW. JUST WHAT I WANTED---BIRTHDAY CAKE. MY 4 YEAR OLD IS IN LOVE. SHE'S ALREADY CLAIMING IT. VERY VERY VERY SWEET AND FOODY SMELLING. WHEN I FIRST SPRAYED IT ON , IT BLEW ME AWAY!!!! HOPE I DON'T GET SICK OF THIS QUICK. WHEN IT DRIED DOWN IT BECAME VERY WARM SMELLING BUT STILL SWEET ALL OVER. I WOULD BUY AGAIN BUT I THINK THE BOTTLE WILL LAST ME A WHILE.

I love this fragrance, I think it smells exactly like a birthday cake. I don't notice any of the chocolate notes that some of the other reviewers have mentioned though. It makes me think of a yellow cake with vanilla frosting. Very sweet!

Like almost al demeter, this did not stay on any longer than 5 minutes, and it was no at all what I expected - I wanted it to be cakey and sweet, but it ended up smelling like very artificial chocolate with some type of berry underlying scent - weird.
